Joseph Marzano, PhD., LPCC Joe Marzano LinkedIn
Dr. Joseph Marzano has been a mental health provider in the Youngstown and Warren region since 1994. He is currently licensed in the state of Ohio as an LPCC (Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor), which was awarded after completing the Masters program in Community Counseling at Youngstown State University in 1995. Dr. Marzano started his education in psychology at Bowling Green State University in 1988 and earned a Bachelor degree from that program. His most recent academic achievement was recognized in 2006 with the completion of a Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology at Walden University.

Dr. Marzano has a wide range of clinical experience that includes diagnostic assessment, psychotherapeutic treatment for children, adolescents, and adults, crises intervention and family intervention. He began his clinical career with Valley Counseling Services in Liberty, Ohio in 1995. There he served as a case manager for two years having the primary responsibility of working with patients in hospital or controlled settings such as Woodside Hospital and Northside Hospital. This experience helped to develop his assessment and treatment techniques in the recognition of symptoms associated with mental illness. An additional role of Clinical Therapist was added at Valley Counseling Services in 1997 where his clientele shifted to individual and family treatment for those individuals presenting with mild to moderate levels of symtomolgy.

In 1998, Dr. Marzano began working in the private sector of mental health at a number of agencies in Mahoning and Trumbull County. He is most recognized for his role as founding clinician and developer of several agencies still operating in Mahoning County. His most recent project was initiated in 2010 when he began a specialized private venture with the establishment of Advanced Counseling Solutions, LLC. This agency was praised for its unique focus on both education and treatment of mental health issues. His new private practice centers on personalized treatment planning for children, individuals, families, and institutions needing cooperate consultation, executive training, sports and performance enhancement and mental health education.

Academically, Dr. Marzano has maintained several teaching and faculty appointments. Currently, he is the Program Director of Behavioral Sciences for the Family Practice Residency at Northside Medical Center. He also serves as an adjunct professor with Argosy University teaching courses in Interpersonal Effectiveness and General Psychology. Additional instructional roles are as an internship site supervisor for Youngstown State University and Kent State University.

Dr. Marzano has expanded his clinical and academic training locally as well. His education based focus expands to student advisor in adolescent development with students from many local school districts including: Canfield, Boardman, Austintown, Struthers, Campbell, Poland, Mineral Ridge, Lake Milton, and Springfield local schools.

Dr. Marzano often states that his professional experience combined with his personal experience of being born, raised, and living in Mahoning County has helped him appreciate a thorough understanding of the clients he works with and the communities in which they live. To date, Dr. Marzano treats a variety of individuals ranging from young children to older adults. His clinical experience is also quite broad providing treatment for anxiety, depression, adjustment to life transition, grief, pain management, anger management, fitness for duty evaluation, behavioral disorders, and personality disorders.


Kanthi Raja, MSSA, LISW-S
Kanthi Raja has a Masters Degree in Social Work from Case Western Reserve University. She is a Licensed Independent Social Worker, an Independent license issued for counseling by the State of Ohio. She has been working as a therapist for the past seventeen years.

Ms. Raja specializes in individual and family therapy for children, adolescents, adults, and families. She is available to work with couples as well. Her focus areas are treatment of mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, ADHD, adjustment disorders, and other mood disorders.

Ms. Raja also specializes in the treatment of trauma such as domestic violence, issues of separation and loss, issues around abuse and neglect, and issues around separation and reunification of families. She also enjoys working with adult survivors of childhood and other trauma. Other areas of expertise include enhancing parent-child relationships, parenting /behavior management, and school adjustment issues.


Joseph Simons MSW, LISW
Joseph Simons is a licensed psychotherapist who practices from a strengths-based empowerment therapeutic approach. He earned his Master's Degree in Social Work from Youngstown State University in 2008. In 2011, Mr. Simons received his Independent Social Work License and began working in private practice at Advanced Counseling Solutions, LLC in Austintown, Ohio.

Prior to his work at Advanced Counseling Solutions, LLC, Mr. Simons was employed as a grief counselor for a Canfield, Ohio based Hospice, a child and family therapist for a local Youngstown, Ohio community mental health agency, and as a therapist in the field of corrections. He treats a wide variety of clients from children and adolescents to adults, couples, and families. Mr. Simons specializes in providing counseling services in the areas of depression, bi-polar disorders, adjustment disorders, anger management, PTSD, substance abuse, and grief issues. Currently, along with his private practice, Joe works for the Veteran's Administration at a local community-based outpatient clinic providing counseling to the men and women who have courageously served our country.


Mark A. Welty, Ph.D., NCC, LPCC-S, LSW
Dr. Welty received his doctorate in counseling psychology in 2010. Prior to the completion of the Ph.D. he had focused his career in a number of clinical capacities that included duties in roles of clinician, manager and administrator. Dr. Welty's career started in 1989 where he worked within the Ohio prison system as a licensed social worker. He expanded his knowledge base several years later when he earned his Masters degree in counseling and became licensed as a counselor in the State of Ohio.

Early in his career, Dr. Welty was drawn to working with troubled youth and focused his treatment within a children's program in Tuscarawas County. Aside from his clinical role, he also began his administrative duties when he was hired by what was formerly known as Boys' Village in the role of assistant network coordinator and network coordinator in the Village's therapeutic foster care program. Later career changes led to a transition into management and administration as the clinical coordinator for a 130 bed treatment facility operated by the Cuyahoga County Department of Justice Affairs. Clinical and research experiences completed by Dr. Welty also include working with adult batterers, perpetrators of sexual violence, and individuals struggling with chemical addictions.

For the past several years Dr. Welty has enjoyed a connection with academia and presently serves as an adjunct professor at Malone University in their graduate counseling department. He has also developed and taught courses at Argosy University, Kent State University, the University of Cincinnati, Capella University, and Walden University.

Dr. Welty has also begun providing services in the private sector of mental health. He currently maintains a private practice and training institute in Medina, Ohio, The Aiko Institute that specializes in addictions and recovery. Along with this venture, Dr. Welty has also recently returned to serving youth and families with The Village Network's (TVN) where he serves as their Central Regional Director.

Dr. Welty states that his work with TVN allows him to focus on being a part of a mission driven team with extraordinary talent. This trend has also lead him to his most recent objective to further his teaching and consultation skills by joining his friend and colleague, Dr. Marzano, as a consultant with his practice, Advanced Counseling Solutions, LLC.


Jaymi Wendt MSW, LISW-S
Jaymi Wendt is a licensed independent social worker who has worked in the social work field for 15 years. Mrs. Wendt completed her bachelor’s degree from Youngstown State University in 1999. She then continued her education and earned a master’s degree in social work from Youngstown State University in 2010.

In 2012, Mrs. Wendt successfully passed the state of Ohio’s independent social work licensure exam.

As part of her education experience, Mrs. Wendt interned at the Martin P. Joyce juvenile justice center in Mahoning County; conducting mental health assessments and therapeutic interventions with children and families involved in the court system.

Mrs. Wendt has an array of experiences including working with foster children, adolescents placed in residential care facilities, hospital social work/crisis intervention, therapeutic case management as well as working with the developmentally disabled population.

Prior to her work at Advanced Counseling Solutions, LLC, Mrs. Wendt also provided outpatient therapeutic counseling with individuals, families and adolescents at a local mental health agency.

Along with her private practice, Mrs. Wendt is currently employed as a program director for an agency that provides care services to the developmentally disabled that reside in the community. She is instrumental in developing treatment plans and assisting this population in becoming more independent and self-sufficient.

Mrs. Wendt practices from a systems perspective; with the belief that every part of a system is constantly changing and the ability to adapt to these changes assists in maintaining balance in ones mental health.

Wendt serves at Program Director for Advanced Counseling Solutions Suboxone Therapeutic Treatment Group.


Nicole Pascarella MSW, LISW-S
Ms. Pascarella graduated with her Masters degree in 2009 and has extensive experience in mental health counseling and family intervention. She is an Independent Licensed Social Worker (LISW) who operates from a Person Centered (Rogerian) perspective and believes that every individual has the capacity for growth and change. Ms. Pascarella uses an eclectic approach to therapy to ensure individualize counseling services, that include, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Trauma Informed Care, 12 Step Facilitation and A Strengths Based Empowerment Model.

Ms. Pascarella’s academic positions include instructing in the Social Work Department at Youngstown State University and serving as a member of the Critical Incident Stress Management team of Mahoning County. She has spent the majority of her career working with individuals involved in the criminal justice system, as well as those on parole and probation. Additional qualifications include advising as a member of Mahoning County Felony Drug Court and Family Dependency Court.

Clinically, Ms. Pascarella has spent the majority of her professional career working in community mental health and addiction treatment settings and has provided services to individuals, couples, families, groups and adolescents. Ms. Pascarella currently specializes in offering therapeutic services in the areas of mood disorders, anxiety disorders, adjustment disorders, PTSD, personality disorders, trauma and trauma recovery, women’s issues, substance abuse and addiction.



Theresa Guju Bohr MSW, LISW
As a licensed independent social worker, Theresa Bohr began her career in community behavioral health in Mahoning County. She is a life-long resident with deep community roots who brings commitment, passion and exceptional clinical care to her clientele. As an advocate and clinician, Ms. Bohr is experienced in many therapeutic modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy, integrated care and stagewise treatment. She works cooperatively with each individual to form a personalized plan to promote mental health and recovery and to provide a foundation of wellness and balance to empower and restore clients.

Ms. Bohr received for Bachelors and Masters degrees in Social Work from Youngstown State University whose focus areas are treatment of mental health disorders such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, Autistic spectrum, and adjustment disorders.

Ms. Bohr believes developing trust in a therapeutic relationship is a key element for children, adolescents, individuals and families to achieve the best outcomes from counseling. She serves as Program Director for Advanced Counseling Solutions Interactions Treatment Program.


Brandon D. Miller, LPCC, LICDC
Brandon Miller has been a practicing counselor for nearly a decade, and has provided high quality services to individuals with addictions and/or mental illnesses. Brandon is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) and a Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor (LICDC) in the state of Ohio. He received his Master of Science in Education (M.S.Ed) in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Youngstown State University, and his Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Psychology from the University of Toledo.

Brandon specializes in treating individuals with substance use disorders, and other addictions; he also specializes in treating individuals with mood disturbances such as depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder. Brandon utilizes a person-centered, yet eclectic, approach which helps individuals by focusing on their uniqueness and strengths in order to achieve complete self-renewal. He has received advanced training in evidence-based practices which include Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and is a trained-trainer of Twelve Step Facilitation (TSF).

In addition to working at Advanced Counseling Solutions, LLC, Brandon is employed at a major addiction services provider in the Youngstown-area as the Director of Special Populations and Specialized Treatment Services and is a member of their Senior Leadership Team. In his role, Brandon oversees treatment for individuals who require specialized services such as medication-assisted treatment, treatment for co-occurring disorders, specialized women’s services, criminal justice involved clients, trauma and PTSD, and others.
